11.-12.11.2025: Religion(s) in an Age of Digitalization

An Interdisciplinary Research Symposium with Nordic and Swiss Scholars.

This symposium from 10-12 November 2025 brings together media scholars, theologians, sociologists, and religious study scholars from the Nordic countries and Switzerland. The aim is to explore the implications of digitalization within religious institutions across these diverse contexts. A key theme of the symposium will be theoretical and empirical discussions surrounding how digitalization relates to—and contrasts with—other significant societal transformation processes, such as mediatization and marketization. The program will feature presentations, panels, and discussions that examine the intersections between these two contexts, serving as a valuable venue for collaboration and networking.

The symposium is being organized by Professor Elisabeth Tveito Johnsen from Faculty of Theology at University of Oslo, along with Professor Thomas Schlag, director of the UPPP Digital religion(s).
