Praying Against Hate? Digital (Religious) Practices in the Context of Conspiracy Theories and Extremism

How are conspiracy theories and extremism linguistically or multimodally linked to religion or religious practices? Which emotions or affects are, thereby, articulated? And to what extent do they reflect specific stances and media ideologies?

These questions will be investigated using a mix of quantitative and qualitative methods. During the first step, corpus linguistic approaches will be applied for the collection and preliminary analysis of the data. Ethnographic approaches in the form of surveys and interviews will be used to complete the data-collection process. During the second step, the obtained data will be investigated with the help of discourse-analytical and qualitative-hermeneutical methods.
