This project discusses the ethical criteria that allow researchers to distinguish responsible religious online communication from conspiracy theories.
By referencing epistemic and ethical theories, the different normative claims raised by religious communication and conspiracy theories will be analyzed and ethical criteria that can be used to distinguish between them will be promoted.
These theoretical insights will be tested on the empirical data provided by the other projects in the cluster and will also help to interpret the data in an ethical perspective. This research aims to achieve a better understanding of what normatively distinguishes religious communication from conspiracy theories and how this manifests in online communication.
